EX FTP Server and Chat Room

The EX data server, accessible at https://exdata.tgfoe.org/ , offers direct access to the operations chat room and cruise file data. These resources can also be accessed using other FTP File servers (e.g., FileZilla) and instant messenger utilities (e.g., Pidgin).

The EX data server acts as a repository for Okeanos Explorer data for current cruises. The primary purpose of the data server is to make data collected by the ship available to shore-based personnel. It can also be used during the cruise planning process to share large, pre-existing data files (e.g., > 5MB). Please refer to the information below to learn how to use operations chat rooms and to get access the server to upload/download data.

The instant messenger server allows ship-board and shore-based personnel to communicate via instant messaging (IM). The chat room is one example of how the IM service is used. The purpose of the chat room is to host a centralized collaboration location where ship-based and shore-based personnel can communicate about operations being conducted in real time aboard the ship. The chat room is a group chat room enabling geographically distributed users to comment on data feeds being streamed live from aboard the Okeanos Explorer to shore in a centralized way.

Comments, discussions and requests made in the “Chat Room” group chat room are logged and provided a timestamp (GMT) and can later be correlated to the operations, location, and data feeds coming off the ship at that time. Please do not make Taxonomic Observations in the chat room. If you want to discuss a particular observations, you can use chat room but please provide annotations and science observations in SeaScribe.
