Submarine Landslide
Map of the seafloor on the southern Aleutian shelf showing the area of the massive submarine landslide discovered during the 2025 Aleutian Arc expedition. Colors show depth ranging from 500 meters (0.3 miles) below sea level in red to 4,000 meters (2.5 miles) below sea level in purple. The data were collected using the multibeam sonar on the Office of Naval Research’s Research Vessel Atlantis.
