Sponge on a Dead Sponge Stalk
Throughout the seventh dive of the 2026 American Samoa ROV + Mapping Exploration expedition, numerous dead holdfasts and stalks of dead stalked sponges were observed. Standing stalks, like the one shown here, were often colonized by Poliopogon sp. sponges, anemones, barnacles, and crinoids.
