December 23, 2021: Sea Star Feeding on Coral

Goniasterid sea stars were seen grazing on at least two bamboo coral colonies during Dive 17 of the Océano Profundo 2018: Exploring Deep-sea Habitats off Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands expedition.

Goniasterid sea stars were seen grazing on at least two bamboo coral colonies during Dive 17 of the Océano Profundo 2018: Exploring Deep-sea Habitats off Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands expedition. We made several interesting sea star observations during this expedition, some of which are highlighted in this mission log, “New and Rare Stars In the Abyss of Puerto Rico.”
