August 6, 2021: Octopus

We saw this octopus — on an #OctopusFriday nonetheless — while exploring near Jarvis Island, a 4.5 square kilometer (1.7 square mile) uninhabited island just south of the Equator as part of the Mountains in the Deep: Exploring the Central Pacific Basin expedition.

We saw this octopus — on an #OctopusFriday nonetheless — while exploring near Jarvis Island, a 4.5 square kilometer (1.7 square mile) uninhabited island just south of the Equator as part of the Mountains in the Deep: Exploring the Central Pacific Basin expedition. The dive was a treasure trove of marine life, at one point leaving one of the scientists participating in the expedition from shore to exclaim, "this is the most fantastic thing I have ever seen!"
