June 6, 2021: Cockatoo Squid

This cockatoo squid was imaged at 527 meters (1,729 feet) depth along the Gulf of Alaska continental slope during the Gulf of Alaska Seamounts 2019 expedition.

This cockatoo squid was imaged at 527 meters (1,729 feet) depth along the Gulf of Alaska continental slope during the Gulf of Alaska Seamounts 2019 expedition. The little squid made quite the impression on expedition participants, garnering lots of “oohs” and “aahs” as the team on the ship watched the stream from the remotely operated vehicle exploring the waters below.
