June 7, 2021: Squat Lobster

A squat lobster posed perfectly for our remotely operated vehicle cameras while exploring a seamount informally named “Edmondson” Seamount within the Johnston Atoll area during the 2017 Laulima O Ka Moana: Exploring Deep Monument Waters Around Johnston Atoll expedition.

A squat lobster posed perfectly for our remotely operated vehicle cameras while exploring a seamount informally named “Edmondson” Seamount within the Johnston Atoll area during the 2017 Laulima O Ka Moana: Exploring Deep Monument Waters Around Johnston Atoll expedition. The dive site was selected mostly for its potential to reveal unusual geology, but we saw plenty of interesting marine life as well.
