March 1, 2021: Eelpout

During the 2016 Deepwater Exploration of the Marianas, the team made an exciting discovery while exploring a seamount in the process of being subducted under the Marianas Plate — an undescribed species of Pachycara (or “eelpout”), an abyssal fish genus of the family Zoarcidae.
