February 28, 2021: Shrimp

These shrimp were seen living on a discarded fishing trap on the seafloor in an area between Veatch and Nantucket Canyons off the New England coast during the Northeast U.S. Canyons Expedition 2013 expedition.

These shrimp were seen living on a discarded fishing trap on the seafloor in an area between Veatch and Nantucket Canyons off the New England coast during the Northeast U.S. Canyons Expedition 2013 expedition. We saw several examples of ghost fishing gear throughout this particular dive, a stark reminder that, contrary to popular belief, the deep sea — the largest ecosystem on our planet — is not immune to human impacts.
