October 4, 2020: Scaleworm

This scaleworm, measuring approximately 5 centimeters (2 inches) in length, was seen on the underside of a holothurian (sea cucumber) that was about 60 centimeters (2 feet) at 1,526 meters (5,006 feet) depth while exploring on site referred to as 'Baruna Jaya IV - Site 1' as part of the INDEX 2010: “Indonesia-USA Deep-Sea Exploration of the Sangihe Talaud Region” expedition. The expedition took place deep in one of the most exotic seas in the world – the center of the Coral Triangle with some of the highest diversity of marine animals in the world.
