October 5, 2020: Sea Toad

A close-up shot of a sea toad or coffinfish in the family Chaunacidae, seen during a 2017 American Samoa expedition dive within the bounds of the Ta'u Unit of National Marine Sanctuary of American Samoa. A type of anglerfish, this sea toad has a short lure on its snout that it uses to attract prey as it sits and waits to ambush its next meal.
