This lovely stalked bubblegum coral (Paragorgia sp.) was seen at a depth of 649 meters (2,129 feet) while diving on a mound feature north of Alaska’s Uliaga Island during the Seascape Alaska 3: Aleutians Remotely Operated Vehicle Exploration and Mapping expedition. This mound was found during the expedition’s mapping operations and proved to be an ideal environment for deepwater coral and sponges and an area of high biodiversity, as shown here.
