Siphonophore
While exploring an unnamed seamount in the central Pacific Ocean during the 2017 Discovering the Deep: Exploring Remote Pacific MPAs expedition, we observed this deepwater siphonophore at a depth of 1,531 meters (almost a meter). Although it looks like a single organism, it’s actually a colony of individual hydrozoans, each specialized for different functions such as swimming, feeding, and reproduction. Watch the video.
