Beautiful Glass Sponge
This beautiful and largely healthy glass sponge in the genus Hertwigia was observed during the fifth dive of the 2026 American Samoa ROV + Mapping Exploration expedition. It measured more than 30 centimeters (12 inches) across and featured a large opening, or osculum, where water filters through to collect food.
