This beautiful snapshot of deep-ocean life was captured at a depth of 780 meters (2,559 feet) on a mound feature north of Uliaga Island in Alaska’s Aleutian Islands during the Seascape Alaska 3: Aleutians Remotely Operated Vehicle Exploration and Mapping expedition. During this dive, we encountered a wall-to-wall forest of corals and sponges, like this barrel sponge, which serve as habitat for a variety of animals, like shrimp, crabs, fish, sea stars, and more.
