During remotely operated vehicle (ROV) expeditions on NOAA Ship Okeanos Explorer, like the 2026 ROV Shakedown, once the ROVs are deployed, the control room becomes the hub of mission operations. From the “front row,” the ROV team pilots the ROVs, directing where they go and what they do. The monitors around the room display live video feeds from the high-definition cameras on the ROVs, sonar and navigation data, and vehicle diagnostics.
