An underwater photograph shows a section of the port-side hull of the shipwrecked Senator. On the left, a large, textured expanse of the hull curves upwards, illuminated by green-hued underwater light. To the right, a dark, recessed area contains various indistinct mechanical structures and cables, partially obscured by shadow and particulate matter in the water. Ropes or cables are visible crossing the right side of the frame. The overall scene is murky and atmospheric, characteristic of a deep-water wreck site.

Collision Damage
The large break in Senator’s port-side hull caused by its collision with the steamer Marquette. Also seen here are some of the 268 Nash automobiles that were aboard Senator at the time of its sinking. This image was captured by the still camera on the hybrid remotely operated vehicle/autonomous underwater vehicle used during the fieldwork of the Exploring Wisconsin Shipwreck Coast National Marine Sanctuary at Scale project.
