The Acoustic Mapping and Characterization of Seafloor Hydrothermal Discharge With Multibeam Echosounders on Uncrewed Underwater Vehicles project team used backscatter collected at hydrothermal vents at a depth of 665 meters (2,182 feet) on Vailuluʻu to test their technique for creating 3D plume images for use in comprehensive views of hydrothermal activity across sites.
