The Venus flytrap sea anemone looks and acts a lot like the land plant it’s named after, but it’s an animal. It uses stinging cells on its tentacles to paralyze unsuspecting animals as they drift within its reach, it then folds itself up to trap its prey and eat it. This anemone was seen at a depth of 653 meters (2,142 feet) northeast of St. Croix during the third Voyage to the Ridge expedition in 2022.
