Alliance Partnerships

NOAA Ocean Exploration maintains long-standing Education Alliance Partnerships with aquariums, science centers, universities, and national marine sanctuaries to offer professional development for educators nationwide. These opportunities provide educators with materials and web-based resources to bring ocean science and exploration topics alive in their classroom. Educational Alliance Partnerships are supported through the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation.

Located on the Rio Grande River, the ABQ BioPark is the Zoo, Botanic Garden, Aquarium and Tingley Beach. The Zoo is home to over 900 animals, many of which are in conservation programs. The Botanic Garden has 32 acres of exhibits, highlighting plants from the Southwest USA and around the world. The Aquarium exhibits native freshwater species and ocean animals. Tingley Beach has recreational fishing. We are the top tourist destination in New Mexico.

Located on the eastern tip of Dauphin Island, a barrier island in the Gulf of Mexico, DISL is perfectly situated for a wide range of marine science activity. DISL serves Pre-K through gray with a wide variety of educational programs through Discovery Hall, University Programs and the Aquarium of Alabama.

The Gulf of Maine Research Institute (GMRI) is an independent, non-partisan marine non-profit that supports the Gulf of Maine ecosystem and the communities that depend on it. GMRI develops and delivers collaborative solutions to global ocean challenges.

The Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport, Oregon is the marine and coastal research branch of Oregon State University. Since 1965, Hatfield has been a hub for coastal research and serves as an oceanographic research base for six state and federal agencies. Hatfield is also home to Oregon State University’s Marine Operations, which includes research vessels, marine tech and support services. Hatfield excels in student research opportunities and experiential instruction. Each summer the campus hosts a thriving internship program and offers an array of academic programs for students in K-12, along with community college through post-doc levels.

Loveland Living Planet Aquarium (LLPA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that inspires people to explore, discover, and learn about Earth’s diverse ecosystems. A world-class facility, the Aquarium provides learning opportunities for all levels, interests, and ages.

National Marine Sanctuary of American Samoa (NMSAS) is located in the cradle of Polynesia’s oldest culture. The sanctuary protects extensive coral reefs, including some of the oldest and largest Porites coral heads in the world, along with deep-water reefs, hydrothermal vent communities, and rare marine archaeological resources. Outreach and communication activities help increase public awareness about the sanctuary and its resources, and encourage public involvement in resource protection.

The Palau International Coral Reef Center (PICRC), established by law in 1998 and opened in 2001, is Palau's leading marine research institution. It advances coral reef research, fosters public education and awareness, and supports sustainable marine resource management by providing leaders with scientific information and technical expertise. Over the years, PICRC's scope has expanded from nearshore research to overseeing the entire Palau National Marine Sanctuary, covering all of Palau’s waters. Located on the rocky coast in historic Odiorne Point State Park in Rye, NH, Seacoast Science Center is a marine education and science resource dedicated to inspiring active conservation. SSC features aquariums, indoor touch tanks, interactive exhibits, and naturalist-led programs and events that teach people about the importance of the coastal and marine environment so that they are empowered to help build a healthier future for our planet.

The South Carolina Aquarium is an award-winning nonprofit that connects people with water, wildlife and wild places. Delaware Sea Grant helps Delaware communities wisely use, manage, and conserve our state's valuable coastal resources by fostering sustainable coastal economies, developing resilience to coastal hazards, and preparing the next generation of coastal leaders.

Education and Outreach programs engage pre-college students, K-12 educators, and graduate students. The Education Team offers outdoor, coastal field trips, professional development opportunities, and experiential courses. Programs focus on coastal ecology, geology, watershed stewardship, ocean research, exploration & technology. We aspire to provide valued programs that educate, advance ocean literacy, and encourage everyone’s citizen scientist.

Housed within University of the Virgin Island's Center for Marine and Environmental Studies (CMES), the Virgin Islands Marine Advisory Service (VIMAS) serves as the extension arm of the University of Puerto Rico’s Sea Grant College Program. VIMAS works with various local and federal partners within the Virgin Island’s community to: 1) Increase awareness of our natural resources; and 2) Provide sound ecological/ecosystem data to decision makers, coastal managers and the public. These goals are met through the use of collaborative research, outreach, and outreach tools.

The Waikīkī Aquarium, founded in 1904, is the third oldest public aquarium in the United States and a part of the University of Hawaii . Known for its vibrant displays of living corals and reef fish, the Waikīkī Aquarium's exhibits, programs, and research focus on the marine life of Hawaii and the tropical Pacific.The Waikīkī Aquarium's mission statement is to inspire and promote understanding, appreciation and conservation of Pacific marine life.
