December 27, 2021: Shrimp

This heavily armored caridean shrimp was seen during one such dive, while exploring in Toms Canyon during the 2021 ROV Shakedown.

At the beginning of every field season, NOAA Ocean Exploration dedicates a series of days at sea on NOAA Ship Okeanos Explorer to "shake down" and test the readiness of the ship's mission systems and the remotely operated vehicles. Once all of the testing is complete, we often have a few days to conduct science dives. This heavily armored caridean shrimp was seen during one such dive, while exploring in Toms Canyon during the 2021 ROV Shakedown.
