September 3, 2021: Octopus

This Muusoctopus octopod, whose body was about 16 centimeters (5.2 inches) across, was observed on soft bottom seafloor at approximately 1,600 meters (5,250 feet) depth during a Windows to the Deep 2019 expedition dive to explore a seep site just south of Norfolk Canyon.

This Muusoctopus octopod, whose body was about 16 centimeters (5.2 inches) across, was observed on soft bottom seafloor at approximately 1,600 meters (5,250 feet) depth during a Windows to the Deep 2019 expedition dive to explore a seep site just south of Norfolk Canyon. This deep seep site was first discovered by NOAA Ocean Exploration using NOAA Ship Okeanos Explorer in 2012.
