Remotely operated vehicle (ROV) Deep Discoverer leaves the seafloor after completing the last dive of the 2014 field season at the end of the Our Deepwater Backyard: Exploring Atlantic Canyons and Seamounts 2014 expedition. Over the course of the three-leg expedition, NOAA Ocean Exploration and partners collected critical data for the science and management communities that will expand our understanding of this region. We collected high-resolution multibeam sonar data covering 36,200 square kilometers of seafloor and conducted 16 highly successful ROV dives, which explored 6 seamounts and 9 canyons.
