The Johnston Atoll portion of Pacific Remote Islands Marine National Monument is so unexplored, that on almost every dive within the protected area during the 2015 Hohonu Moana: Exploring Deep Waters Off Hawaii expedition, scientists found new organisms that the team had never seen before, like this squat lobster seen residing on a black coral…that also turned out to be a new species!
