From April 29 to May 6, 2026, NOAA Ocean Exploration and partners will conduct the 2026 Mapping Shakedown expedition on NOAA Ship Okeanos Explorer off Hawai‘i. While underway, the team will focus primarily on calibrating and evaluating the performance of the systems used to map the seafloor and water column, making adjustments as needed. Once the mapping systems are in working order, the team will begin targeted mapping to fill data gaps in part of the U.S. Exclusive Economic Zone off Oahu. There will not be any remotely operated vehicle dives during this expedition.
