Submarine Ring of Fire 2014 - Ironman

Mission Overview

From November 29 - December 21, 2014, scientists travelled to the Submarine Ring of Fire for a two-part expedition. The first part of the expedition focused on the study of iron-oxidizing bacteria at hydrothermal vents. During the second part of the expedition, scientists explored how the emission of carbon dioxide from active submarine volcanoes acidifies the local marine environment and how that in turn affects the unique biological communities living around the vents.
