Fiscal Year 2019 National Oceanographic Partnership Program Broad Agency Announcement

October 5, 2018

The Office of Naval Research, on behalf of the National Oceanographic Partnership Program (NOPP) agencies, recently posted the NOPP Fiscal Year (FY) 2019 Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) solicitation.

NOPP  facilitates partnerships between federal agencies, academia, and industry to advance ocean science research and education. Through this collaboration, federal agencies can leverage resources to invest in priorities that fall between agency missions or that are too large for any single agency to support. NOPP conducts an annual BAA and funds projects that span a broad range of topics in oceanographic research, including environmental monitoring, ocean exploration, earth systems modeling, technology development, and marine resource management. The NOAA Office of Ocean Exploration and Research (OER) director, Alan Leonardi, serves as NOAA’s representative to NOPP.

In the FY2019 BAA, NOPP participants identified seven ocean research and technology topics of mutual and emerging interest. Three topics are of specific relevance to OER:

  • Autonomous mapping
  • Sustained observations of marine biodiversity for improved understanding of marine ecosystem responses to changing environmental conditions
  • Advanced sensor technology

Letters of intent for these topics are due November 2, 2018.
