We call Earth the Blue Planet for a reason — it's a lot of water!
The water column, which includes all of the water in the ocean between the surface and the seafloor, makes up 95-99% of the total livable volume of the planet, yet remains one of the most poorly explored environments on Earth. But the glimpses of life in the water column we do get tend to be pretty amazing.
