December 10, 2021: Cutthroat Eel

This cutthroat eel in the family Synaphobranchidae was not happy to see remotely operated vehicle Deep Discoverer! Encountered at a depth of 1,505 meters (4,938 feet) while exploring a guyot rift zone ridge about 50 nautical miles south of Wake Atoll as part of the Deepwater Wonders of Wake: Exploring the Pacific Remote Islands Marine National Monument expedition.
