Photo of the freighter SS Norlindo (previously named Lake Glaucus [1920–1925] and Volusia [1925–1941]). This American steam freighter was sunk on May 4, 1942, off the Dry Tortugas by the German U-boat U-507. The sinking of Norlindo marked the first World War II combat casualties in the Gulf of Mexico.

In August and September of 2021, a team of German, Italian, and American scientists and archaeologists, supported by NOAA Ocean Exploration and the NOAA Ocean Exploration Cooperative Institute, embarked on an expedition to search for the shipwreck.
