Remotely operated vehicle Deep Discoverer images a halibut that measured well over a meter (3.3 feet) in length (for reference, Deep Discoverer is about 3 meters, or 10 feet, long). This was one of three Atlantic halibut (Hippoglossus hippoglossus) spotted while exploring an unnamed deep-sea canyon north of Kinlan Canyon, located off the New England coast. Three observations in such a short period of time suggests that this canyon may serve as critical habitat for this endangered species. Watch a video of the halibut seen during the dive.
