July 1, 2021: Red Crab

During the Northeast U.S. Canyons Expedition 2013, while exploring between Veatch and Nantucket Canyons off the New England coast, we saw many deep-sea red crabs on the seafloor throughout the dive.

During the Northeast U.S. Canyons Expedition 2013, while exploring between Veatch and Nantucket Canyons off the New England coast, we saw many deep-sea red crabs on the seafloor throughout the dive. This one was digging through the sediment, likely searching for food, when a wayward gastropod wandered in front of it (the snail was not harmed or eaten, at least while we were observing!).
