June 4, 2021: Stingray

This stingray was observed during the first dive of the 2019 Southeastern U.S. Deep-Sea Exploration, when the team explored the Stetson-Miami Terrace Deep Water Coral Habitat Area of Particular Concern off the Atlantic coast of Florida.

This stingray was observed during the first dive of the 2019 Southeastern U.S. Deep-Sea Exploration, when the team explored the Stetson-Miami Terrace Deep Water Coral Habitat Area of Particular Concern off the Atlantic coast of Florida. Stingrays are cartilaginous fish and are closely related to sharks. Their whip-like tails have sharp spines that contain potent venom.
