Invasive lionfish were observed in increasing numbers at red grouper pits at Pulley Ridge during the Coral Ecosystem Connectivity 2014: From Pulley Ridge to the Florida Keys expedition. A quick count at one pit revealed 67 of the venomous Pacific species, raising serious questions for the scientists on the expedition in terms of long-term impacts of lionfish on the marine environment.
