During the Microbial Stowaways: Exploring Shipwreck Microbiomes in the Deep Gulf of Mexico expedition, the team explored a shipwreck known as “Site 15711.” Video data collected via remotely operated vehicle was used to confirm that Site 15711 is a wooden-hulled sailing vessel, likely dating to the mid to late 19th century. In this image, you can see an anchor and some ceramic dishes were located amidships of Site 15711’s hull.
