February 18, 2021: Dana Octopus Squid

This Dana octopus squid followed remotely operated vehicle Deep Discoverer during much of its descent to the seafloor to explore along the far westernmost edge of the Clipperton Fracture Zone during the Discovering the Deep: Mountains in the Deep: Exploring the Central Pacific Basin expedition. Notice the bioluminescent spotlights on the tips of two of the squid’s arms.
