December 17, 2020: Jellyfish

This beautiful red jellyfish was seen pulsating through the water column just above the seafloor during a Gulf of Mexico 2018 expedition dive to explore for methane seeps near a mound feature in Hidalgo Basin at a depth of 1,095 meters (~3,592 feet). The imagery of the jellyfish was indeed spectacular and speaks not only to the remarkable capabilities of the remotely operated vehicle (ROV) Deep Discoverer, but also the remarkable capabilities of the ROV pilots who operated the vehicle from the ship.
