December 15, 2020: Crinoid

This crinoid with a large number of arms, which are curled up instead of being extended, was observed living on a coral stalk during the fourth dive of the 2019 Southeastern U.S. Deep-sea Exploration. The dive took place off the coast of Florida in the Stetson-Miami Terrace Deepwater Coral Habitat of Particular Concern (HAPC) in the Blake Plateau region. As part of the HAPC, the dive site was a priority for resource managers who were interested in learning more about deep-sea coral and sponge habitat in the area.
