This glass sponge, Aphrocallistes beatrix, was seen during the Windows to the Deep 2018 expedition with a squat lobster. In addition to being abundant on deep coral reefs, this iconic glass sponge is also very important because of its potential human health benefits. In particular, it has been found to contain a compound that may be able to help fight pancreatic and breast cancer.
