Glass Sponge as Habitat
This glass sponge (Lefroyella sp.) was seen at a depth of 1,453 meters (nearly a mile) during a dive on Cachalote Guyot, which is west of the Azores in the North Atlantic Ocean, during the second Voyage to the Ridge 2022 expedition. The sponge was serving as habitat for a variety of animals, including the squat lobster (superfamily Galatheoidea) and anemone (family Hormathiidae) seen here.
