recovery of large traps

Recovery of one of the large traps placed on the seafloor away from seep sites. These traps caught many large scavenging animals. The tissues of these animals could be examined to tell what they had been feeding on. In this way, we can see how much of the productivity at the seeps is transported to the rest of the deep Gulf of Mexico. Image courtesy of Gulf of Mexico 2002, NOAA/OER.
