The hydrothermal vents on Mussel Ridge at Monowai caldera are covered by dense beds of chemosynthetic mussels, several species of shrimp, and isolated clusters of tubeworms. The vent communities are also characterized by vent fish, anemones, and huge numbers of Paralomis crabs, which we have not seen elsewhere.
