Exploration 2002 will be an international symposium to promote the benefits of ocean and space exploration, research and technology development. Ocean and space engineers, and scientists share many of the same objectives, such as the necessity of working in a small, contained environment. In 2000, a workshop was held to bring together those developing new technologies that may be employed in ocean science and exploration, both within the federal and private sectors. The upcoming event will help to continue this working relationship of technology collaboration.

During the symposium, recent and future advancements in technology that may benefit ocean and space exploration and research will be highlighted. Explorers who have been to the frontiers will share their stories of discovery. A future in which deep-sea and interplanetary exploration, and the existence of previously undiscovered life, will be explored. Named after Edwin A. Link, an ocean and aviation engineer, the symposium hopes to embody the vision and innovation of his research, by bringing together ocean and space exploration technology.

Participants include: NOAA, NASA.
