This was a dive to the Mississippi Canyon, one of our shallower sites at just over 1,000 m. Alvin pilot Pat Hickey collects one of the largest specimens of Bathymodiolus brooksi that we've ever seen. This species of mussel contains both methane and sulfide-oxiding symbionts. Video courtesy of Expedition to the Deep Slope, NOAA-OE.
