The hydrothermal vents on Mussel Ridge at Monowai caldera are covered by dense beds of chemosynthetic mussels, several species of shrimp, and isolated clusters of tubeworms. The vent communities are also characterized by vent fish, anemones, and huge numbers of Paralomis crabs, which we have not seen elsewhere.Video courtesy of the New Zealand American Submarine Ring of Fire 2005 expedition.
