One of the main objectives of the Arctic expedition was to gather video imagery in the Canada Basin all the way from the underside of the ice to the seafloor. Despite an extremely short timeframe, engineers from Deep Sea Systems, Inc were determined to have the new Global Explorer ROV ready for the mission. In order to finish the ROV in time, the engineers hopped onboard the Louis well before the science party arrived, with the ROV in pieces. They worked long hours for the next 10 days to get it operational. This video clip depicts the first successful launch of the ROV for scientific operations. (Video courtesy of Emory Kristof.)
