Coral Community
A community of coral (Hemicorallium sp., Chrysogorgia sp., Narella sp., and Calyptrophora sp.) observed on the fifteenth dive of the Papahānaumokuākea ROV and Mapping expedition. This group was found on the sheer upcurrent side of a large pillow basalt boulder. The volcanic terrain created a highly patchy assemblage of species, where areas of cobbled rocks would give way to large boulders with higher density. This observation was made at a depth of 2,279 meters (7,477 feet).
