This viperfish (Chauliodus sloani) was spotted at a depth of 815 meters (2,674 feet) near the beginning of Dive 12 of Windows to the Deep 2021. These fish are midwater predators that also visit the seafloor, drifting absolutely rigid and motionless, except for an occasional lightning-fast strike.
