The cusk eel, Leucicorus lusciosus (Garman, 1899). This fish is rarely encountered - the whole genus is known from a collection of fewer than 20 individuals. This species was previously known only from the eastern tropical Pacific. Although the eye is large, we don't think they can actually see images, as the eye does not have a fully formed lens.
Seen while exploring a guyot ridge along the northwest end of the Karin Seamounts within the Pacific Remote Islands Marine National Monument on September 26, 2015.
