This map shows modeled polymetallic nodule abundance (kg/m2) in parts of the abyssal plains within the Cook Islands exclusive economic zone (EEZ) that had been explored through May 2023. The numbers represent the location of dives conducted during the first leg of the 2026 Cook Islands ROV Exploration cruise. Abundant polymetallic nodules were seen during Dives 02, 03, 04, 06, 07, 08, and 09, each of which was in areas where no prior data existed and where models suggested that nodules would not be abundant.
